Past Perfect Continuous Tense

         S + had + been + Ving

หลักการใช้ 
       1. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นสองเหตุการณ์ในอดีต เหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดขึ้นก่อนและกำลังดำเนินอยู่เป็นเวลาต่อเนื่องกันก่อนที่จะมีเหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดขึ้น ซึ่งก็เหมือนกับ Past Perfect นั่นเอง แต่ต่างกับ Past Perfect ตรงที่ เน้นถึงอาการที่ได้ดำเนินต่อเนื่องกันไปเท่านั้น เช่น
          - We had been discussing the matter for two and a half hours when he arrived.
           (แสดงให้เห็นถึงการอภิปรายที่เริ่มต้นก่อนที่เขาจะมาถึง และบางที่จะดำเนินต่อไปอีก)
          - When he came , she had been waiting for half an hour.
          - She had been living in Phrae for ten years before she moved to Lampang.             หมายเหตุ -- กริยาบางตัวเท่านั้นที่ใช้รูป Perfect Continuous ได้ เช่น wait , work , live , lie , sleep,go, play , talk , sit , etc....ซึ่งเป็นกริยาที่แสดงอาการได้นานๆ (long action)
   2. ใช้แสดงการกระทำที่เป็นอดีต แต่ปรากฎผลให้เห็นในเวลาต่อมา เช่น
          - Mary was dark because she had been sunbathing.
          - I was tired because I had been driving all day.

Exercise: Put the verbs in brackets into the Past Perfect Continuous Tense.

   1. The children.....(shout).... for help for two hours when the helicopter saw them.
   2.  She .....(work)......there for several years the last time I saw her.
   3.  She...(wait)......for you for one hour when you arrived.
   4.  Felicia...(live).....in France before she moved to Thailand.
   5.  Mr. Quang ....(teach).....in Indonesia before he came to Thailand.
   6. I had … (swim) … for half an hour when I remembered that I had a cold.
   7. Mr. Dome … (sing) … for years before he became an actor.
