Grammatical Structure - Modals with Tense

Modals with tense 

1. กริยาช่วยดังต่อไปนี้มักจะใช้ในรูปประโยคที่เป็น Present tense

               can, will, shall, ought to, must, need, may

• I can speak English.  (ฉันสามารพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้)
• I will do it for you.   (ฉันจะทำเพื่อเธอ)
• You must be hungry!  (คุณต้องหิวแน่ๆ)
• I may go without him. (ฉันอาจจะไปโดยไม่มีเขา)
• I need you to bring the document up there. (ผมต้องการให้คุณนำเอกสารขึ้นไปข้างบน) 

 

2. กริยาช่วยต่อไปนี้มักอยู่ในรูปประโยคที่เป็นอดีต Past tense

               would, should, could, might 

• could สามารถใช้เป็นความหมายเดียวกับ can สำหรับอดีต  When I was a child I could run fast.

(เมื่อตอนผมเป็นเด็กผมสามารถวิ่งได้เร็ว)

• Would ใช้แสดง repeated action ในอดีต  If I had more time, I would read more book .  

(ถ้าฉันมีเวลามากกว่านี้ ฉันจะอ่านหนังสือมากกว่านี้)

• My mom recommended that I should see the doctor (แม่แนะนำว่าฉันควรไปหาหมอ)

 

3. กริยาช่วยต่อไปนี้มักอยู่ในรูปประโยคที่เป็นอนาคต Future tense

               Will, would, could

• I will go to the gym tomorrow. (ฉันจะไปโรงยิมพรุ่งนี้)
• ใช้สำหรับ possibility ที่อาจเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต I could go with them whether they don’t mind.

(ผมอาจจะได้ไปกับพวกเขาถ้าเขาไม่รังเกียจ)

• ใช้สำหรับ possibility ได้เหมือนกับ could ใช้สำหรับเหตุการณ์ที่ไม่เป็นจริง หรือไม่น่าจะเกิดขึ้น แต่อาจจะเกิดขึ้นได้ในอนาคต  I Know she would help me. (ฉันรู้ว่าเธอจะต้องช่วยฉัน)
